Should I dye my hair?

I have very dark brown hair that is ringlette curly down past my shoulders. I have a fair complexion, green eyes and freckles. I haven't dyed my hair in about 10 years, so my hair is very healthy. I just put a little mouse in it and I'm done. I have no frizz and it's silky smooth. I have this burn inside to do something different to my hair, but I also do not want to damage it. Should I get highlights (caramel, blond or even red?) Or should I just try a different cut? I won't cut it short, but would do something like layers. I've been looking online for ideas, but its hard to find pics of my hair-type and color.
