How do I change my hairstyle on my own?

I have medium-long dark wavy hair with dark caramel highlights. I went through a phase this past school year that with side bangs like.. on my face. Sort of like straight across bangs but off to the side.. if that makes sense. Anyway, I really want my hair out of my face now, my bangs almost reach my chin now and it just looks stupid LOL so I need to know how to change them while keeping my side-part. Thank you(:
