Fascism or Communism - Which posed the biggest threat to Western Civilization?

... I guess a little bit of both. They're basically the same thing (which is evil), except fascism is too far right-winged and communism is too far left-winged. But when either goes too far, it leads to socialism. ... Germany was fascist in WWII... I guess both pose threats over there now, since both lead to socialism.
